Advent Reflection 12/12/14
During Advent we prepare to commemorate Jesus’ birth on Christmas. We prepare for Jesus’ second coming. And, in doing both of these things, we prepare to invite Jesus to inhabit our lives and hearts more deeply.
These are great thoughts, but you know how it is. Christmas is less than two weeks away, and there is so much that needs to be done. I have to mail cards, finish shopping, wrap presents, bake Christmas treats, and get the house cleaned up. If I stop and think about what I’m doing and why, there’s no way I’ll finish in time. I just need to keep working so I can get it all done.
Listen to “The Motions” by Matthew West. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUg9qE_KjLg
I don’t want to go through the motions.
I don’t want to go one more day
without your all-consuming
passion inside of me.
Are you just going through the motions with your family? Your work? Your faith? Your life?
Do you want God’s “all-consuming passion” inside of you?
It starts with prayer. Spend time with God. Read his Word. Get to know who he is. Share your thoughts, joys and fears with him. And don’t forget to listen.
When you begin to understand God’s great love for you, you can’t help but give it back and share it with the people around you.
