ADVENT REFLECTION 12/2/14
Advent is a time of waiting. Before the first Christmas, the Israelites were waiting for a savior. Elizabeth waited for Mary’s visit. Mary waited for the birth of her baby. Now we wait for the time when Jesus will come again.
We get a lot of practice waiting this time of year. We wait in traffic. We wait at the post office. We wait in long lines at department stores. We wait for the packages we ordered, hoping they arrive on time. Do you remember when you were a kid, how you waited for Christmas to arrive, and how long it took to get here?
Right now, in your life, what are you waiting for?
Are you waiting for something that will make you happy–the perfect job, marriage, a bigger house, a child? While you are waiting, choose to be happy now, right where you are.
Are you feeling called to do something, but you’re waiting until a more convenient time? Take a cue from Peter: Keep your eyes on Jesus, and get out of the boat. (See Matthew 14:22-33)
